Cinco De Mayo

Cinco de Mayo commemorates the Mexican victory over the French army at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862 during the Franco-Mexican War. More popularly celebrated in the United States, Cinco De Mayo has become a representation of the Mexican-American culture and celebrates diversity and the coexistence of Mexico and the United State.

At Plaza Mexico, Cinco de Mayo is celebrated with a reenactment of the Battle of Puebla performed by actors representing the importance of the Cinco de Mayo battle.  A civic ceremony is also conducted with elected officials, community leaders, dignitaries, and the Mexican consulate, who all pay respect to the Mexican and United States flags and anthems. Attendees can enjoy performances, entertainment, artisans, folkloric groups and festive music throughout the event.
